On this tour, you will first travel to the beautiful city of Cartago at the foot of the Irazu Volcano, and visit the Basilica of Las Angeles where pilgrims from all over Central America come to visit. This beautiful basilica was built in 1639 and shows a unique mix of colonial architecture as well as 19th century Byzantine style, The Basilica is consecrated to the Virgin of Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, and each year in August 1.5 million believers throughout Costa Rica make the pilgrimage to the church, many of whom join in the celebrated 22 kilometer walk to the Basilica during the Romeria.

After our visit to the Basilica, we will drive to the beautiful and lush Lankester Gardens. a tropical paradise of beautiful plants of all kinds, and featuring over 800 varieties of exotic orchids, various tropical flowers, and plant life. You will be thrilled and amazed at the lush areas of palms, secondary tropical forest, heliconias and other tropical plants as you walk the paved trails winding through these incredible gardens.

We then take a wonderful scenic drive to the beautiful valley of Orosi, where you will enjoy the unique beauty of the famous Orosi Valley and Reventazon River. This area is noted for its rich soil, abundant plant life, and tall mountains with lush green foliage, waterfalls, birds and exotic animals. Along the way, you will visit one of the oldest colonial churches and see the enchanting ´Dreamers House´. As your journey continues through the gorgeous river valley, you will have an excellent view of the Cachi Lake, see splendid mountainous vistas, hot springs, lakes, national parks and then stop for lunch in a restaurant surrounded by beautiful coffee plantations.

Then, on to the Irazu Volcano National Park The Irazu Volcano is a magnificent towering volcano, located in the beautiful mountains near the Central Valley. Still active, Irazu is perfectly safe to visit and admire. A major destination, Irazu is the highest volcano in Costa Rica- over 2 miles high. Its last eruption was in 1965, and since then it has been dormant. Mild earthquakes can still be felt underneath on occasion showing that it is still active, but visitors today can view the enormous crater in amazement from the safety of the park´s overlook.
